light gives life,
to all creations in the cosmos;
light is life.
anything lightless is lifeless;
light and darkness belong to the Almighty.
all of creation finds its reflection in the life,
and in the death of a human being.
from out of death comes life,
and from out of life comes death.

This installation is part of the "النور" (nur) series. Nur here denotes Light in all its physical and metaphysical aspects. The work tries to break away from form in an attempt to capture the formless and mystical nature of light.

Mull: a fabric used to shroud the dead becomes the canvas. Mud : the substance of which we are made and from which we must return, becomes paint. Light : the life giving power animating both the canvas and paint.

Life springs forth from the earth and when the body becomes lifeless, it is shrouded. The earth reclaims what it gave out after the light returns to its source.
